Perplexity Spaces is a quietly good Notion-killer for research

Perplexity rolled out Spaces last week without a big launch post — which is itself a tell. Spaces are persistent, shareable research workspaces where you can upload files, define a custom system prompt, and let your team query the same context.

Why we picked it

This is the first product that makes Perplexity genuinely sticky. Before Spaces, every search was ephemeral. Now you can build a durable knowledge base for, say, a market research project, and have the whole team query it.

• Up to 50 files per Space on the free tier (PDF, docx, txt, csv)

Watch out for

• File limit is 50MB per upload, which kills most academic PDFs
• No version history yet — if a teammate edits the system prompt, you can't roll back
• API access not yet exposed for Spaces

If you're paying for a separate notebook tool just to chat with documents, you can probably consolidate.
